Well, it's that time of the year, again. A time I having been waiting for. The start of the 2010 NFL Regular Season. This Sunday, the Raiders travel to Tennessee to play the Titans. Easy win for the Raiders.
This weekend, they chopped the roster down to 53 players. The Raiders have the strongest team in their past 6 years. Players to keep an eye on will be RB Michael Bennett (Charger Spy), RB Michael Bush, QB Jason Campbell, WR Chaz Schilens, SS Tyvon Branch, FS Michael Huff, CB Stanford Routt, MLB Rolando McClain. I did not mention CB Nnamdi Asomugha, because that is a known fact. He is a franchise player.
Keep your eye on the Raiders and you will be amazed at the major improvements this team will display.
Stay positive and you will not be disappointed. AFC West Championship....here it comes.
Until next time,
Raider-Man....Out!!!

100 And Counting!!!
Hi All,
This is my 100th post and it has been fun. I need more of you to visit the site and post your comments via the links in the site. I will see them faster when you do it that way.
Well, preseason week #2 is done and I am REALLY bored. Everyone is in my ear about how great the Raiders look. Did you think they wouldn't? The Raiders are the best kept secret in the NFL. I am still picking them to upset whoever the NFC puts the against in the Superbowl.
QB Jason Campbell is a big-time star at his position. The Redskins would never have released him, if they did not have Donovan McNabb as their starter. They know Jason Campbell deserves to be a starter, but they could not make McNabb a backup. So, when the offer to be a starter with another team came about, they let him take it. Thank goodness it was with the Raiders.
Whenever anyone wants to tell you about how bad the Raiders are or how out of touch Al Davis is or how out-of-control the Raiders players are, just point out the fact that top players always want to play for the Raiders....especially after they talk to Al Davis. You would not have that if the negative were true.
This week, the Raiders will host the 49ers on Saturday at 6pm. This will be a test of the starters as they should get a little more playing time in preparation for the regular season. Expect the second half to be an evaluation of the 2nd, 3rd and Special teams as there is an August 31st cut date.
Watch the game, enjoy the individual play of the team and do not make this a good versus bad thing. Remember, it is only preseason and does not count.
That's it for this week. Until next time,
I am Raider-Man!!!

2010 NFL Hall of Fame/Preseason
Hi Gang,
I will start this blog by commenting on the 2010 Hall of Fame ceremony and game, even though the Raiders were not represented. I will try to be brief, so bear with me. I don't usually take it under consideration, but I must be getting old.
The Ceremony:
I know Jerry Rice entered the hall as a 49er, but I think it was cheap of him not to mention the Raiders (or Seahawks) as teams that helped to pad him receiving and all-purpose totals, making them virtually unreachable by anyone else. Also, he says he thinks he can still play...."So do I!" In a way, he showed that in the flag football game that was played this past Saturday.
I was never an Emmitt Smith fan, because he never played for the Raiders and the Cowboys are a rival, in my opinion. I always thought if he had not been on a team with the WR's, QB, Linemen and RB's the Cowboys had at that time, he would never have been as good nor gotten the press he received. But, he won me over. He showed, during his speech, that even he knows he is only in the HOF because of the his Cowboy teammates. It was when he had his FB stand and he publicly acknowledged him as being the biggest contributor in his career. Now, people are ripping on him for not mentioning his college, but so what! He spent 24 minutes recalling all he could of the top of his head. He, too, failed to mention the team he ended his career with...the Cardinals. He did add yards to his career totals while playing with them.
Finally, I am happy to see Chris Berman of ESPN make the NFL HOF. He gets ripped, repeatedly, by the people on ESPN radio in Las Vegas for his style of presenting highlights. I like him. He keeps things exciting and fun to watch. Has it been a long time? yes, but the only person who matches the longevity at ESPN Stewart Scott and he should be in the HOF, soon.
People all across the radio airwaves have been killing the NFL Hall of Fame game. Yes, the Bengals lost to the Cowboys, but who amongst you thought the Cowboys were going to lose when there best running back ever was enshrined this year. If you did think the Bengals would win, you should have known better, after the Bengals were called for 9 penalties in the first half. I like the HOF game. I use it the way the media does, which is for practicing for the regular season coverage. I practice my cheering and jeering of the game. That is how I use all preseason games. It is my way of getting in shape for the season.
That's all.
Now, it's almost gametime. It preseason. Get your Raider gear out of the dry cleaners, post those flags, get your game face on and start wearing your gear.
Many commentators are picking the Raiders of winning 9 games and not making the playoffs. GET REAL!!! With the team Big Al has put together, the QB Jason Campbell, the beefed up OL/DL, the strong(er) Defense and the other teams in the division imploding, the Raiders will win 12 games, the division, the conference and the Superbowl! The Chargers have given away all hope and are rebuilding. Ask Shawne Merriman. He is holding out as a free agent. He knows they are looking to the future. Ask LaDamien Thomlinson. They let him go to the Jets. The Broncos are putting their eggs on Tim Tebow. Bad move. The Chiefs...need I say more.
The Raiders have added QB Jason Campbell, who has proven he can win games in the NFL and only took 2 weeks to learn the Raiders system and is the leader the Raiders have missed at the helm for a while. He, alone, is good for 8 wins. The players are happy, this fan is happy and I am looking forward to a great Raiders 2010 season. The only weak spot in the team is the Head Coach, Tom Cable. The Raiders season will depend on how he runs the team. I still believe, while he was a good Line Coach, he is not Head Coach material. Not everyone is a Head Coach.
As you know, I do not count preseason games. This is a tradition I will never drop.
Until next week, the above is my opinion. You don't have to agree with it, just respect it.

The Boys Are Back!!!
Hi All,
Sorry for the delay. Hope you missed me. Lot's of NFL off-season action, drafts, trades, news, etc. I started put it all together this past Monday and then....BANG!!! big news, today. I decided to scrap all of what I had written and go with what has taken place in the past 12 hours. Here we go.
I have had lots of questions regarding L.T.'s arrest and since he is not a Raider, nor ever was a Raider, I will only say this...it is reported, from people close to the case, that the 15 year old was a runaway working as a prostitute and it appears L.T. was being setup for money. We will have to see as the case rolls out.
Now on to the Raiders:
Back in early April, when ask about JaMarcus Russell, Head Coach Tom Cable stated, "JaMarcus is our starting Quarterback and that's that." Yet, during this years NFL Draft, Al Davis and the Raiders made a big trade for the Redskins QB Jason Campbell. People asked me "Why?". I said then, the Raiders were not going to keep Russell and it appears I was right. Everyone at ESPN, along with numerous broadcasters and odds makers here in Vegas, stated the Raiders would release JaMarcus before mini-camp, because if they did not, they would have to pay Russell $40,000,000. When they did not and they called JaMarcus to mini-camp, those same people said he would be the Raiders starter. They never bothered to ask the Raiders.
Today, the Raiders placed JaMarcus on waivers and all the reports stated "the Raiders released JaMarcus Russell." That was not quite what happened. He is on waivers. It's just that the Raiders may not be able to get the $40 mil they paid JaMarcus, because I do not know of any team willing to give up that much to get him.
I watched two former Raiders, Dominique Rhodes and Jon Ritchie along with writer Ray Ratto give their view on JaMarcus and Al Davis. Ritchie was the only one in defense of them. As the others repeatedly bad mouthed Al Davis, saying things like he is old and out of touch, and JaMarcus, calling him lazy and an over eater without a will to play, Jon Ricthie stopped them and stated "Al Davis is very much in charge and he know more about his players and football than people want to give him credit." I cheered!!! He is saying what I have been saying all along. Ricthie said JaMarcus will be a good QB, he just needs a coach who is will to work with him.
Now here is why Al Davis insisted on JaMarcus reporting to mini-camp. He wanted to give him one more chance. He wanted to see if the signing of Jason Campbell would shake Russell up so much that he began to work like he was expected to 3 years ago. On Friday, he showed up at camp, early, ready to work. He did a very good job on that day. So good, Al Davis began to think he was coming around. On Saturday, he had another good workout and looked very sharp. On Sunday, he began to slip back into his old habits. It worsened on Monday and Big Al had seen enough. It was time to place him on waivers and see what they could get.
For 3 years, the fans of the Raiders have been screaming for Big Al to get rid of JaMarcus. Well, I hope you are happy, because I am not. I, like Al Davis, refuse to believe the Raiders problems were all on JaMarcus Russell. He is a good QB and has the makings of a great QB. He just needs a coach that can teach him and guide him on how to lead. In the games he won, he looked great. The coaches needed to work on his consistency. He never got that from the Raiders, because none of the coaches wanted him. My guess is he will end up with the Saints. They are where he is from and the Head Coach is a QB coach who can take him and make him a winner. Highlight that last statement. There is nothing wrong with JaMarcus and he will get it together.
Everyone is telling me the Raiders will be great, now. I have always said that, not just in the happy times. I still think the main problem is still on the team. Head Coach Tom Cable. He is not Head Coach material and his days are numbered. Al Davis is just giving him enough rope to hang himself. The Raiders have put together, via the draft and trades, a great looking offense and beefed up the defense. Now, if they can acquirer some positive, supportive fans, they will win the 2011 Superbowl. It boils down to the Head Coach. Can he get the players to back him up? Can he make the right calls? Can he coach? He has an experienced QB and if he is not set on making Campbell the starter, you know he needs to go.
The Raiders will win the West and win the AFC and win the Superbowl and if you are not ready for that, sit down and be quiet. Yes, I am back and stronger than ever. The Chargers made bad moves in the draft and they got suckered in trades. The Broncos made stupid moves in the draft and even worse trades. The Chiefs, well they won't count for at least 2 more years. The Raiders where the only team in the division who made smart moves. I can't wait until game one, this season.
Next week, I will try to get into the players background and give you some insight into the makeup of the team.
As always, these are just my opinions. You don't have to agree with them, just respect them.

And The Sants Go Marching In!!!
Well, another season has come to a close. The Saints brilliantly defeated the Colts in the 5th best Superbowl I have ever watched (and I have watched them all). My all time top 4 Superbowls...Superbowl II, Superbowl XI, Superbowl XV and Superbowl XVIII. (If you can tell me the significance of those 4 Superbowls, you are a true fan)
The Raiders closed the season on a fighting note. They showed promise, pride, respect and courage. I am proud of them. Next season, they Raiders will win the division. The tools are in place and parts are being added, as of this writing. New Coaches, players and staff will help right the ship and keep things on track.
I have to say this, there was a Superbowl XLVI party at the South Point Casino, in Las Vegas. In attendance was David Humm, George Atkinson and Fred Biletnikoff. There was a Q&A session in which someone asked Fred "What is Al Davis really like?". Fred got very serious and said the following (I will not quote, because I cannot remember word-for-word), He answered: People do not understand Al Davis. He looks for people who are Raiders first and then good players. You have to have a good mix of being a Raider and then a player. The problem is, it is too hard to find personnel with that mix, today. Today's players are not made that way. They are mostly self adsorbed and feel entitled to the privilege of playing in the NFL. Most of the players he has, today, are Raiders, including JaMarus Russell. People give the Raiders a hard time about JaMarcus, but they do not understand that he is a Raider at heart. Players cannot do the things we did and be able to perform. Ken Stabler would come to the games hungover, but play like a champion for Al and John (Madden). That is a Raider. JaMarcus will come around, it just takes work. He needs coaches who can bring that out of him and the other players. That will happen. Right now, Nnamdai Asomugha is the one comes to mind that embodies both a Raider and a Player. There are Some on Offense, but we need more. Al also looks for Coaches that embody that as well. I am looking forward to this next season. The Raiders will have lots of sportscaster eating their words.
I agree with every word. I was a great session.
I will close with this. The season is done, but I a not. I will be back to keep you informed on the team. The combine is coming. Draft day is not far behind. Training camp will come after that. Let's keep our heads to the sky and push the Raiders to win the Superbowl.
Always remember, this is MY opinion. You don't have to agree with it, just respect it.

And The Winner Is....
Hello Fans,
I am back. I never went away, I just had to gather my thoughts on the downfall of the season. It has been said that Big Al is interviewing Head Coaches, but has not fired Tom Cable, yet. My take, he will meet with Cable on Tuesday of next week. (It always happens on Tuesday) He will lay down the Al Davis rule. If Tom Cable argues at any point, he will be fired on the spot. If not, he will stay. Al is just setting him up for a fall.
I think Tom Cable is not ready to be a Head Coach. He mad bad decisions all season. Decisions that cost the Raiders a game after game. The Raiders have the players to truly be an 11 win team, but with Tom Cable at the helm, it will never happen.
For Al Davis, I think the last straw came in the game that Brad Gradkowski went out with an injury, JaMarcus Russell stepped in and drive the Raiders to a come-from-behind win. The Raiders came from 20+ points down and won the game. The next week, Cable benched JaMarcus and the team reverted back to it's troubled ways.
The players are telling the media, they want Cable to stay, but that is only because they (along with all of us) have no clue as to who would replace him. My choice...Willie Brown or Fred Biletnikoff. Nuff Said.....
It's playoff time and my score for week one was 50%. Week two, I went 3 out of 4. This week I have to stick with my guns. I told everyone, in week 17, I thought the Superbowl would be between the Vikings and the Colts. I even made a bet that the Colts would win the AFC title. (A small one, but one bet) I do think this weekends games will be good close games. The Saints are playing at home against the Vikings. Always a tough place to play. That give them the edge over the Vikings, even though the Vikings are favored. The Jets go to the home dome of the Colts. They have a good chance to win that game, even though Payton Manning is tough to beat at home.
My prediction. (I am not telling you to put money on this, but...) The Vikings will win by 2 and the Colts will win by 3.
A diesel attends into the vintage.
I do not like the Pro Bowl being played before the Superbowl. It makes for a boring game due to the fact that the best players will sit out to prepare for the Superbowl. Why play in the All-star game and risk injury when the biggest game of your life is a week later. I think its nice to have it in the same venue as the Superbowl, just have it a week after the Superbowl. I think Hawaii is a good spot for it as it makes it more of a vacation. I do have the perfect solution. One that nobody will entertain. Have the Superbowl and the Pro Bowl in Las Vegas, ever year! Think about it.
With that, I say look for me next week, after the Superbowl teams are set.
As always, The above is my opinion. You don't have to agree with it, just respect it.
I am Raider-man and that is how I see it.
