Well, another season has come to a close. The Saints brilliantly defeated the Colts in the 5th best Superbowl I have ever watched (and I have watched them all). My all time top 4 Superbowls...Superbowl II, Superbowl XI, Superbowl XV and Superbowl XVIII. (If you can tell me the significance of those 4 Superbowls, you are a true fan)
The Raiders closed the season on a fighting note. They showed promise, pride, respect and courage. I am proud of them. Next season, they Raiders will win the division. The tools are in place and parts are being added, as of this writing. New Coaches, players and staff will help right the ship and keep things on track.
I have to say this, there was a Superbowl XLVI party at the South Point Casino, in Las Vegas. In attendance was David Humm, George Atkinson and Fred Biletnikoff. There was a Q&A session in which someone asked Fred "What is Al Davis really like?". Fred got very serious and said the following (I will not quote, because I cannot remember word-for-word), He answered: People do not understand Al Davis. He looks for people who are Raiders first and then good players. You have to have a good mix of being a Raider and then a player. The problem is, it is too hard to find personnel with that mix, today. Today's players are not made that way. They are mostly self adsorbed and feel entitled to the privilege of playing in the NFL. Most of the players he has, today, are Raiders, including JaMarus Russell. People give the Raiders a hard time about JaMarcus, but they do not understand that he is a Raider at heart. Players cannot do the things we did and be able to perform. Ken Stabler would come to the games hungover, but play like a champion for Al and John (Madden). That is a Raider. JaMarcus will come around, it just takes work. He needs coaches who can bring that out of him and the other players. That will happen. Right now, Nnamdai Asomugha is the one comes to mind that embodies both a Raider and a Player. There are Some on Offense, but we need more. Al also looks for Coaches that embody that as well. I am looking forward to this next season. The Raiders will have lots of sportscaster eating their words.
I agree with every word. I was a great session.
I will close with this. The season is done, but I a not. I will be back to keep you informed on the team. The combine is coming. Draft day is not far behind. Training camp will come after that. Let's keep our heads to the sky and push the Raiders to win the Superbowl.
Always remember, this is MY opinion. You don't have to agree with it, just respect it.
